Suede - Antidepressants

Familiar yet new, Suede continues the musical streak with another great release. The production on this record allows the band to be at their 'most', without the usual filter making the record feel genuine and unique, capturing the feeling of a live performance while maintaining the quality and polish of a studio recording. Frontman Brett Anderson said 'If Autofiction was our punk record, Antidepressants is our post-punk record', and this statement is shown true, as it is a clear evolution of the band. There is a common theme here of the modern world, with lyrics about brotherhood on 'Dancing with the Europeans', anxiety and derealisation on 'Trance State', mortality on 'Disintegrate' and the record really is embodied as 'Broken Music for Broken People'.

The album is full of emotion in both performance and lyrics, and the instrumentation blends post-punk rock with gloom, atmosphere and intimacy, and some clear inspiration from David Bowie most evident on 'June Rain'. This record is easily the best since the band's revival and fans cannot wait to see the completion of this saga.
