A love letter to all of Super Mario, the Mario Kart world soundtrack manages to be both a historic throwback for fans of the franchise as well as a reimagining of many of the songs you love and remember, with tracks such as 'Creative Exercise' (Mario Paint), 'Slider' (Super Mario 64), and 'Ground BGM' (Super Mario Bros.). Despite consisting of older tracks, this soundtrack manages to feel fresh and bold, but also familiar. This combination is also represented in the musical styles, with genres such as Jazz Fusion, Rock, Ska, and Latin styles. It contains Harmonicas, Orchestras, Electric Guitars, Saxophones, Acoustic Guitars, Horns, and countless others. If it was just old songs reimagined, it would still be one of the best albums of the year. But there are 120 additional tracks, with all the same details and fantastic instrumentation; all of which are Interesting, unique, contain references and motifs, and sound amazing. It is clear that a lot of care and attention and love was put into this record to make the gameplay experience as good as it could possibly be. This is definitely Nintendo's best record, and the label of '$80 album with a game thrown in' is perfectly accurate. This is easily the best album I have heard so far this year and I doubt it will be exceeded.
